Lake Macquarie Private Hospital (LMPH), located 15kms south of Newcastle is a 118 bed private hospital, purchased by Ramsay Health Care in 2002. The hospital has undergone major redevelopment, providing additional state of the art facilities and an additional 32 beds.
 
The medical centre linked to the hospital provides Specialist Medical Consulting Rooms plus Radiology and Pathology. In addition, plans are underway to develop:
 
·        an additional 32 bed Medical / Oncology Ward (approved in principal ); and

LMPH basically services the lower Hunter catchment area comprising LGA’s of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Port Stephens, Maitland, Cessnock and Singleton which accounts for 84% of admissions.  The fact that 16% come from elsewhere mainly reflects the expanded catchment that applies for the tertiary services at the hospital. The latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics for the catchment area are 540,500 including the Lake Macquarie Area of 191,955 which is the fourth largest population base of all NSW local government areas.
 
Within this catchment area LMPH is a dominant provider of Interventional Cardiology, Cardiothoracic and acute advanced surgery with a national casemix of 1.7.
 
A strong surge in population growth is expected in the next decade due to the expansion of the mining industry in the Hunter region.

·        6 theatres comprising – 2 designated cardiac, vascular with carbon fibre table, 2 Orthopaedic with lamina flow, general surgery;

Nowra Private Hospital is an 84-bed acute care facility, which has provided services to the population of the NSW South Coast for 28 years. The hospital is located 130km south of Sydney and 10km from the coast and beaches for which the South Coast of NSW is renowned. Nowra Private Hospital is a significant provider of hospital services in the district, servicing not only a long coastal strip but also a significant tourist population.
 
The hospital provides a wide range of surgical specialties including general / laparoscopic surgery, ENT, urology, gynaecology, plastic and cosmetic surgery, gastroenterology, dental, ophthalmology and orthopaedics. Twenty four hour pathology and radiology services are also provided.
